Mad Dog's Promenade

from Round of Sound by Max Feinstein

about

Reflections in 2019:

This song is kind of the creamy center of the record for me. It's pure and earnest and takes its time to develop as an homage to David Bowie's Thin White Duke and Low eras.

I wrote this at my parents' house and remember showing it to my mother without much context. She didn't know what to make of it but I was convinced the riff was special. Something about finding a catchy way to use a maj7 chord really gets me going, y'know?

Features Jake Sachs performing synths. His name comes up quote a bit in my story these days.

lyrics

It's funny to see how busy I can get with nothing going on
Enough to take such trivialities and put them in a song
If I sing it right, sing it true, I can make a little music in the time I see my day through
Smile to myself as I take a walk

On even the worst of days i'm in the best of moods on a plaintive promenade
Sorting through my brain and through the pages hope I've made a song
To the highs, through the lows, I'll have had a little vision and I'll make a sound to show for it
Smile to myself as I take a walk
