about

Reflections in 2019:

This is a bawdy little number that means little and goes nowhere. But it's cute! I enjoy in this song the instrumental interlude in which Geroge Harrison and George Gershwin are quoted. It's probably the most meaningful part of the song to me. The lyrics are wishful thinking for myself and hopefully, I've taken some positive affirmations of them forward into my life since.

Maybe the only time on the album Johnny contributed something to the arrangement while I wasn't in the room. Dog bless that man's work ethic.

Baller keyboard solo from Gilch. One of the parts of the album I personally tracked!

lyrics

I met a lady last night in a bar, she gave me whiskey
And the pleasure was entirely mine
She grabbed me by the chin said brother, let me clue you in
Cos it’s only just a matter of time.
I’m not a bible junkie or a woman with a monkey on her back,
I got nothing to prove.
But if you never hear a word you’ll never know what you deserve
And you’ll never learn how to move

You better shut your mouth
You better open up your mind
You better shut your mouth
You better open up your pocket
So you got a place to carry a groove

Well I got zero room for conjecture
You think it would be understood
That if you live your life chasing bad vibrations
How can you amount to anything good?
Everybody’s gonna have a bad day
Now and again your heart is gonna break
But if you’re too damn scared to make the rhythm yours
Then all you’re making is a big mistake

You better shut your mouth
You better open up your mind
You better shut your mouth, boy
You better open up your mind

You got nine more lives
To find out who you really are
You got nine more tries
And then you’ll find out if you’ll take it too far
You got nine more lives to find out who you really are
You got nine more tries

You gotta shut your mouth
And open up your mind
You better shut your mouth, boy
And open up your mind (X4)
