Over Whitewash

about

Reflections in 2019:

This is a song that has stuck with me over the years. Perhaps due to its protracted instrumental section. I enjoy performing it live and I appreciate it on the record as being both a straightforward rocker and a psychedelic interlude for guitar play. For many years the guitar solo here was a calling card for me. It reflects many of the concepts I've grown in my playing to this day.

Lyrically it's about not connecting with someone, missing a connection one thinks is there and lamenting the confusion of the matter. Likely in one's own head with said person right next to them. It can be a bit sad, but ultimately a song of resolution.

lyrics

Maybe the rooftop cries
Out in jagged lines
Maybe it’s just my eyes
Projecting over whitewash
Over whitewash

Blame your lunacy on the moon
On its colors and its shades
Count to three but don’t strip your soul too soon
Feel the breeze through the trees if you please to
This moon is gonna be our tomb

Maybe the rooftop cries
Out in jagged lines
Maybe it’s just my eyes
Projecting over whitewash
Over whitewash(X3)

The plans we laid out in the sand hand in hand
Were the best we could have saved
We clearly paid for mistakes we never made
More to love, more to life, more to you than every night
Why should we break?

Would my time be better spent saying words I never meant
Instead of meaning what I say?
