Drone 04:12
Now you're coming to realize the habits you've outgrown In time you're finding there's not much solace inside the world you've known You can't block out the drone, can't deny you know, you know and you hear it everywhere you go You're not alone, we all pursue our own drone (all is well that's Maxwell) (Max be not well)

Spratz 05:16
Extremes are middle ground, jumping at every sound and yelling over nothing I've got to keep it calm, there's such a fine line between life and what I'm breathing at least we're having fun, we've got each other and that's worth something It's worth an awful lot, I'd say it's worth the time that we've invested Why should we pay the world mind when we're harmless on our own dime? Know when we get out of hand the world understands, girl, we're golden when we lick the platter clean You don't care how we look, just if we're happy, man, that's no problem I'm glad we had this talk, I wanted to let you know the way that I'm looking at things So let us drink to health, the grass is greener when my head is spinning I may forget myself if that's a cry for help I hope no one hears it (Clean) Why should we pay the world mind when we're harmless on our own dime? Know when we get out of hand the world understands, girl, that we're golden when we lick the platter clean Though we may not have a plan, know I've got your hand, and I know that you won't let go of me

all too often I find my thoughts running away, try to picture a time of the day and the year where the air has a chill, subtle yet sharp, the sunight peeking through the shade of the trees Under the shade of the trees is a place I can play When I have nowhere to go, if I have nowhere to stay Under the shade of the trees is a place I can play When I have nowhere to go, if I have nowhere to stay Try to find contentment in the warmth of the sun acknowledging errant thoughts as I gaze at the leaves While gazing up at the leaves let the thoughts drain away and breathe in the air under the shade of the trees Under the shade of the trees is a place I can play when I have nowhere to go if I have nowhere to stay Under the Shade of the Trees is a place I can play when I have nowhere to go if I have nowhere to stay I'd like to know what lies beyond the shade of the trees There's a whole world outside I really should try and see

about

BetaMax is a collection of songs all written roughly around 2013-2014. The record came about at the encouragement of Jake Sachs to finally make good on my second collection of songs. I had been talking about doing this since 2013 FFS it was time I got moving.

Not like I'd kept idle or anything, I'd written and recorded and released work as a band member and session musician all the while, but I had people asking me for stuff with my name on it. That's kind of a special feeling to know your voice is one that some might prefer over another's.

The EP is a snapshot of who I was when I wrote those songs, and who I became by the time I recorded and released them. There's growth and cohesion from Round of Sound in the form of condensing the materials down into some kind of powerful music bullion. It would take a special occasion for me to curate something as long as Round of Sound again. .

It represented an opportunity to get outside of myself and let other people run around in my music as well, honoring the producer in me by staying in touch with the vulnerability I am often shown when working on other people's music. It's something I don't take lightly.

The songs just sounded good together and the meaning worked itself out through the actual effort, and I think that's how I'm looking towards 2020's release schedule.

In the initial promotion of BetaMax I did an interview with Jim Testa at nj.com. It's been shared over 500 times and you can find it below.
