about

Reflections in 2019:

This song is cheeky and gross and wonderful. It's a prime example of the early Beatles flavor I was on at the time taken up an extra notch into this weird Punk Rockabilly place with overdriven vocals and harmonized guitars.

The song's topic is a semi-fictitious crush on a lesbian friend with the joke of being so painfully oblivious to her preference of partner that I'd walk in on her and still not realize what the deal was. I do appreciate how many people I've made laugh with this one.

lyrics

Ashley doesn't love me, she's above me, so I'm told
But I can't hear them lying, so I'm trying to make something unfold
Well it feels alright to stay out all night and talk, but I want more than flights of fancy

But Ashley doesn't love me, ain't thinking of me, why bother trying to pretend?
I went to go light her candle, found her lighting up my best friend
Well I know it's wrong for her to lead me on like this, but lord you know I love her, what can I do?

Ashley doesn't love me, she just shoves me off to the side
She goes out every night with Julie, and I know Julie takes her for a ride.
Ashley doesn't love me, and I see clearly by looking at her fingertips
It seems so ordinary for her to bury them in Julie's lips.
