Redefine closes out Redefine because it feels so damn conclusive. It feels like a summation of the previous songs and the culmination of all the effort put forth to be a better person. It's lavish, theatrical, and nothing but its own self and I'm very proud of it.

It originally started as an exercise in working with the tropes of my friend Darryl Joo's songwriting. He loves deliberate waltzes, random falsetto jumps, and half-diminished chords, so that's what I worked with.

Ultimately there isn't much more to say other than Redefine is the reminded we all need to keep our hearts open and to try a little each day. I sure know I need that reminder frequently

On the face songs are empty words
Bordering on the absurd half the time
Let’s redefine

The kind of vernacular we might use
Alter the lexicon ‘til we break through and in spite of ourselves we can try
Through bearing the heart and the mind
And through vulnerability we may find purpose in fighting the good fight

Emotion is fluid
Existence shifting its tide

Never a dragon to be slain
This is a process, processing pain takes time
To redefine the meaning of life beside the audience

It should be obvious that you exist
When you persist drawing in breath after breath
Now it’s time
Breathe deliberately now clear your mind
Of relentless creation birthed from ideations of welcoming demise

Watching and waiting to see the unmaking
In time, to quiet the mind’s machinations
Continue attempting the progress
