about

Drone shaped up into something of an earnest artistic statement. Something obtuse but compelling. Something otherworldly and introductory in the 3 song BetaMax suite. Finally some of that heaviness I'd been craving! It has the sonic sentiment of a panic attack in a park complete with chirping birds and the din of construction and city life passing by.

Lyrically the song represents growth and the inevitable discomfort that accompanies meaningful growth. It's lyrically confrontational to my mental health and pits my better angels into battle against my self-pity and the pain body as evidenced by the chorale singing "all is well that's maxwell" and the screams of "Max be not well". I'm a punny guy!

The song can be broken up into 3 movements musically. The first is an introduction of the premise, with the lead vocalist establishing the context for the tumult around you. The second movement is an instrumental march. It brings locomotion and a sense of spaciousness to the piece like ascending a mountain. the trudge of progress and the effort of mindfulness. The third part of the song was actually the first part written and was initially the introduction to Spratz. It's a summit. Beautiful sunlight peering down as clouds begin to gather and the foreboding war of the mind commences and then it's ultimately peaceful and beautiful.

I'm proud of each and every nook and cranny of this song's guitar, but especially the riff under the war. I love what everyone brought to this song.

Sam Benvissuto did this outstanding skull artwork with the crazy third eye and vines. She took my mind scrambles and kind of sent them forward.

lyrics

Now you're coming to realize the habits you've outgrown
In time you're finding there's not much solace inside the world you've known
You can't block out the drone, can't deny you know, you know and you hear it everywhere you go
You're not alone, we all pursue our own drone

(all is well that's Maxwell)
(Max be not well)
